Alternet.org
AlterNet.org is a project of the Independent Media Institute,
a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening and supporting independent
and alternative journalism.
First launched in 1998, AlterNet's online magazine provides
a mix of news, opinion and investigative journalism on subjects ranging
from the environment, the drug war, technology and cultural trends to
policy debate, sexual politics and health issues. The AlterNet article
database includes more than 7,000 stories from over 200 sources.
Counterpunch
CounterPunch is the bi-weekly muckraking newsletter edited by
Alexander Cockburn and Jeffrey St. Clair. Twice a month we bring our
readers the stories that the corporate press never prints. We aren't
side-line journalists here at CounterPunch. Ours is muckraking with
a radical attitude and nothing makes us happier than when CounterPunch
readers write in to say how useful they've found our newsletter in their
battles against the war machine, big business and the rapers of nature.
Democracy
Now
Lead by Amy Goodman, this is a great source
of extensive information about current issues as well as those that
have "slipped" from the headlines.
Factcheck.org
We are a nonpartisan, nonprofit, "consumer advocate" for
voters that aims to reduce the level of deception and confusion in U.S.
politics. We monitor the factual accuracy of what is said by major U.S.
political players in the form of TV ads, debates, speeches, interviews,
and news releases. Our goal is to apply the best practices of both journalism
and scholarship, and to increase public knowledge and understanding.
Fairness
and Accuracy in Reporting
Top quality media analysis that sifts through the dominant news
sources and the mainstream headlines to assess their accuracy and/or
biases.
Greg
Palast
BBC journalist and investigative reporter.
He provides the news that the U.S. media won't. (He was the reporter
that broke the Florida 2000 election story.)
Judicialwatch
Judicial Watch, Inc. was established in 1994 to serve as an ethical
and legal "watchdog" over our government, legal, and judicial
systems to promote a return to ethics and morality in our nation's public
life.
As a non-partisan, non-profit foundation based in Washington,
D.C., and with offices throughout the country, Judicial Watch relies
on supporters, like yourself, to help us root out corruption in our
government and to make sure offenders are brought to justice.
Robert Fisk
He is a veteran journalist that prides himself in his investigative
accumen and gets to the bottom of many of the issues avoided by the
U.S. media.
The Guardian
Top quality journalism from London. Some say this paper has a "liberal"
bent, but we feel it does excellent investigative reporting and sifts
through the government documents and issues not mentioned, in any great
detail if at all, by the mainstream U.S. media.
The Independent
Daily news from the UK. Another news source that shows how much
the US mainstream media supplies a narrow and informationally limited
view of the world as well as itself.
WBAI
Grassroots New York Regional, national and international news. Listener
supported radio/media.

C-Span
Augments its
broadcast channels c-span 1, c-span 2, & c-span3 as well as loads
of archived media. (note) C-span is a great place to find out about
U.S. policy creation and policy makers directly from the source without
biased opinion. Also great source for lectures, panel discussions and
conferences.
National
Security Archive
The National Security Archive was founded in 1985 by a group of
journalists and scholars who had obtained documentation from the U.S.
government under the Freedom of Information Act and sought a centralized
repository for these materials. Over the past decade, the Archive has
become the world's largest non governmental library of declassified
documents.
Open Secrets.org
They supply a database of thousands of documents, which are supplied
to the public, but are rarely seen. Reading these documents are important
because they are the road maps to exposed U.S. government policy. Then
listen closely to those who report about them. We are certain you'll
have a better idea why many of the "fair and blanced" media
sources haven't reported about them.
Project Censored
The Primary Objective of Project Censored is to explore and
publicize the extent of censorship in our society by locating stories
about significant issues of which the public should be aware, but is
not, for one reason or another. Thereby, the project hopes to stimulate
responsible journalists to provide more mass media coverage of those
issues and to encourage the general public to demand mass media coverage
of those issues or to seek information from other sources.
PR Watch
PR (Public Relations) Watch specializes in blowing the lid off
today's multi-billion dollar propaganda-for-hire industry, naming names
and revealing how public relations wizards concoct and spin the news,
organize phony 'grassroots' front groups, spy on citizens, and conspire
with lobbyists and politicians to thwart democracy. We expose the hidden
activities of secretive, little-known mega-firms such as Hill &
Knowlton, Burson-Marsteller and Ketchum PR--the "invisible men"
who control our political debates and public opinion, twisting reality
and protecting the powerful from scrutiny.

scholars, investigative journalists and concerned citizens. Together

and comment on their proceedings.
