Digital Direct Action
Preserve the Like It Is Media Archive
We ask that the archive of “Like It Is,” hosted by Gil Noble since 1972, be preserved in a digital form and publicly accessible forever. Like It Is has been the primary repository of interviews and documentaries of the cultural and political leaders of the Black-American community in the United States.
The archive should be integrated into a searchable Internet database, school and library enabled for research by students and citizens. We also request that the entire video archive be included in the Library of Congress, as it is a U.S. national treasure.
This is more important than ever because of Mr. Noble's falling ill and the untimely ending of his ability to produce the program due to a stroke. Please forward this to anyone who may be concerned or interested. We must make sure this time slot doesn't fall to the pressure of modernity, which would reduce the relevance of having a show in the time slot at all.
To be clear, Gil Noble fought to keep that time slot for over 40 years. It is our responsibility to do so now as he can no longer.
Like It Is, which once aired on WABC-TV, New York City, Sunday’s at 12-noon, was WABC’s only regularly scheduled Black produced community program. It showcased many of the issues important to communities of color that would often go unheard or misunderstood.
Please join the voices who are moved to action to preserve this historic treasure.
