Attendees: 13(Hugh Bruce, Bob Carpenter, Bob Grossman, Pete Bronson, Frank Stearns, Maguy Bronson, Tom Siracuse, Lionelle Hamanaka, Bob Davidow, Carl Foster, Jerry Hassett, Joe Urgo, Bob Keilbach).

Agenda:

1. Introductions/Meeting Minutes - The meeting started with introductions at 7 PM, chaired by Chapter 34 VP Hugh Bruce. Minutes of the December 6 meeting, distributed by e-mail and hard copy, were read and accepted.

2. Treasury Report - Bob C reported that the treasury currently has approximately $700 on hand. A fund-raising letter has been drafted, addressed to donor supporters. Meeting attendees contributed toward the cost of the meeting room at the Community Church. The Executive Committee agreed that we would need a majority vote on any future requests to maintain restricted funds in our bank account for another group.

3. Dave Cline Memorial Celebration at Connolly’s – Jerry passed out flyers announcing the event, which will take place on Sunday January 13, 2008, from 2-6 PM at Connolly’s, 121 West 45 St. between Broadway and 6th Avenue, NYC. The event will include music, comedy, video, an auction, poetry and tributes to Dave’s life as an antiwar activist, labor organizer and humanitarian. It was agreed that Pete would speak for the chapter in tribute to Dave. Donations will be used to fund VFP antiwar events in Dave’s honor.

4. Counter-Recruitment Event on 125 St. - Tom S reported on the event, which is planned for Thursday January 24 from 1-3 PM near the 125 St Recruiting Station, between Lenox Ave and 5th Avenue, with speakers, tabling and literature for High School students. Local politicians, including Charles Rangel, Charles Barron, Robert Jackson and Bill Perkins, will also be invited.

5. Chapter Newsletter – Pete B and Bill G wrote an article, which was edited by John Baldwin, regarding their trip to the WHINSEC demonstration at Fort Benning, GA, for a proposed Chapter 34 Newsletter. The newsletter would also include a schedule of upcoming events. It was agreed that the newsletter would be forwarded by e-mail, with copies available at the next chapter meeting. The editorial board, consisting of Elliott Markson, Hugh Bruce, Bob Grossman, Tom Siracuse, Bob Gumbs and John Baldwin, is currently reviewing Elliot’s proposed revisions to the article. Submittal of approved articles to the VFP National Newsletter is also anticipated.

6. Nomination of Chapter Officers - Nominations for chapter officers: President, VP, Secretary and Treasurer, were requested to be presented at this and the January 3rd meeting. Current nominations, presented at this meeting, are as follows:

President:  Bill Gilson, Carl Foster

VP: Frank Stearns,

Treasurer:   Bob Carpenter,

Secretary:   Bob Keilbach,

It is desirable that there be at least two nominees for each officer position. All members should seriously consider running for a position. Hugh expressed his desire to not run for office next year.

7. Queens Dave Cline Fundraiser  - Anne Eagan of Woodside/Sunnyside Peace and the Queens Network for Peace & Justice has proposed a fund-raising event to honor Dave’s life and raise money for his favorite charity, Vietnam Victims of Agent Orange. The event will include a showing of “Sir-No Sir” at a cafe in Queens in early February. Frank is contacting Anne regarding how we can help her with the event. Tom recommended that the chapter also provide a donation in honor of Dave, by special collection at the next meeting.
