and by hard copy at the meeting. The minutes are hereby amended to include Lionelle
and June’s volunteering to follow-up and help contact folks who have signed up at one
of our events. Also, Greg contributed to the ad that was placed in the program journal
for the Better World Awards banquet at the MLK Labor Center on June 14. Amended
minutes were approved.

has contacted the Community Church regarding meeting space thru the end of 2008. The
Exec Meeting schedule has conflicts in late November and December due to the holidays.
Meeting attendees contributed toward the cost of the meeting room at the church.
4. Memorial Day Commemoration/ Fleet Week Events - the Memorial Day events on
Sunday May 25 at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and Battery Park, and Fleet Week
literature distribution at 42 St and 8th Avenue were quite successful. It was reported that
at least one sailor joined IVAW after receiving the literature.
5. Heritage of Pride Parade – We will muster at 11:30AM on 5th Avenue in the 50s. Hugh
has registered the chapter, and has written a message to send by postcard to the chapter
mailing list regarding the event. He is also working on a flyer to be distributed at the
parade. Frank will provide Hugh with the current mailing list, and send out an email blast
prior to the event.
6. Nation Institute Event at Town Hall – Bob C reported on the Tuesday June 3 event at
Town Hall, with Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Chris Hedges, journalist Laila Al-Arian,
bestselling author Jeremy Scahill and The New Yorker's Seymour Hersh, who discussed
the untold story of the occupation of Iraq, the daily plight of Iraqi civilians and the
ongoing role of private mercenaries in America's "War on Terror." Hersh stated that an
upcoming attack on Iran is imminent.
7. Speaker – Elliot Adams, VFP National President – Elliot provided an excellent and
positive discussion regarding what actions the chapter should work on to achieve our
goal to end war, and how to maintain motivation of chapter members to participate. A
chapter can be involved in numerous actions, e.g. counter-recruitment, outreach to active
duty personnel, lobbying elected officials, tax resistance, information dissemination,
etc., which should be selected by what individuals are passionate about pursuing. He
emphasized that chapter actions should be linked, sequential and escalating, in order to
maintain positive energy among the participants. He also recommended brainstorming
among chapter members as a method to uncover valid ideas, and never attacking others’
suggestions, as they may ultimately lead to good ideas.
