Heritage of Pride Parade, Sunday June 28th - meet at Noon on 54 St. between Fifth and Madison Avenues For the 40th Anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion, Veterans For Peace Chapter 34 will be marching in the largest annual parade in NYC. From the account of Matthis Chiroux at the very bottom of this post. The two questions that the veterans wanted to bring to the Presidential Debate at Hofstra. (As you probably know, the veterans were not let in. One wave of demonstrators and veteran demonstrators were arrested. Then, the police used horses to harm the people retreating to the sidewalk.)

EVEN into his 90s, Moe Fishman never missed a protest. So it was only fitting that the memorial service for Mr. Fishman, an Astoria-born radical who fought Fascism in Spain in the 1930s and in his later years demonstrated against the Iraq war from his folding chair in Greenwich Village, was equal parts a celebration of his life and a rousing antiwar rally.

Update: On Oct 5, the last possible day before the army was set to re-try Lt. Watada for refusing to deploy to Iraq, a federal judge issued a stay order, stopping the court-martial until at least Oct 26, or until further order of the court. This Friday, Oct 19, the judge will hear oral arguments on “double jeopardy” – whether Lt. Watada can be tried again for the same “crime”.

The distribution of literature in support of Lt. Watada has been re-scheduled from this week to next week. We will be at Washington Square Park on Friday October 19 from 11AM - 2PM, and Saturday October 20 from 12-2PM. The Friday event will also serve as Chapter 34's participation in the monthly third-Friday Iraq Moratorium and Molly Ivins events.
