Bed-Stuy CC - PARK RULES

HANCOCK "COMMUNITY BACKYARD" GARDEN PARK / RESERVATION RULES

To ensure that we can all enjoy this precious community managed greenspace in the heart of Bed-Stuy, we are asking everyone that uses our park to follow some easy rules. This is a place to chill, relax and be respectful of others.
This is a greenspace that sporadically does events, not an event facility that is also a greenspace. We stress that this should be considered before requesting to have an event at the Hancock Community Backyard Garden Park. We are an EduGarden that focuses on educational and cultural programming. We welcome and present outdoor classroom sessions, block association meetings, various discussion forums, art exhibitions, documentary screenings, and the like.

We are not a music venue. We also do not host birthday parties. We don't want to disappoint people who want to have a gathering nor do we want to bother the residents in the community we are a part of. Please refer music-based events to the many other facilities that are suited for party music volumes and crowds.

General reservations in the park may not have amplified sound of any kind (i.e. Bluetooth, wifi, pocket speakers, or any other amplified sound source.) To have amplified sound for artistic or educational productions, cultural gatherings or movie screenings, we provide sound permits on a case by case basis in accordance with our Good Neighbor policy and our mandate to be a presenter of family-friendly educational, artistic and cultural programming.

In the name of all of us behind this community-grown
grassroots community redevelopment initiative, we look forward to a very exciting present and future with our new model of community greenspace.

WHAT YOU WILL FIND WHEN YOU GET THERE

- All garbage cans will be empty.
- The facility will be configured as discussed during the production meeting.
- You will meet with one of our facility event managers to welcome you to the space.

RESERVATION / EVENT RULES

[+] Absolutely no music. Because of our strict Good Neighbor policy, we must demand that there is no music, which is typically not an issue for educational or cultural gatherings. We can not do party rentals because we are in the middle of the block. It would be a problem for the person making the reservation because they can't have the music at a volume they like and an issue for the community because it is louder than is acceptable for someone who wants to relax in their home without the sounds of a party echoing around.
[+] No profanity That means; we want to insure that the elders and children in our community are respected, which means no "clean" versions and such either. This is a public, all ages greenspace, and all its attendees, art, musical and visual presentations must take that into account.
[+] Keep all food and drinks inside the facility gate.
[+] Keep your attendees inside the park. No one may hang outside the park or in / in-front of their cars.
[+] No one can close the gate for any reason or refuse admittance to the public.
[+] Keep all people inside the public portion of the park.
[+] No one can go in the garden / growspace area. We can have someone on site to show the complete park if you would like.
[+] No one can pick any plants or flowers. No littering. Please leave the park as beautiful as you found it.
[+] Be sure to end the event leaving yourself enough time to load out by the time specified in the agreement.

GATHERING RESERVATION / EVENT FEES
[+] Minimum $40 requested donation for park reservations, which includes use of the grills and public space in the park during the posted open hours.

FYI - If you are planning a gathering that would cost hundreds of dollars if you reserved elsewhere, consider something larger than the recommended donation. The $40 recommendation was set to be sure that the requested donation was not cost prohibitive.

PLEASE NOTE: All donations go specifically into funding park betterment projects and resources. All staff are volunteers and do not monetarily benefit in any way.

[+] $15 donation for your guest's use of the port-a-potty for your reservation.
