The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) has endorsed U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney
ATLANTA - The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) has endorsed U.S.
Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.) July 11, 2002 in her race to continue representing
Georgia's 4th Congressional District. McKinney's lifetime score of 91
percent on LCV's National Environmental Scorecard and her leadership on
clean air, safe drinking water, and open space issues make her an invaluable
environmental leader in Congress.
"Cynthia McKinney's exceptional pro-environment record in Congress
demands that LCV do all we can to make sure she stays where she
belongs, fighting for DeKalb County's interests on Capitol Hill,"
said Betsy
Loyless, LCV political director. "The people of Georgia can count
on
Cynthia McKinney to lead the fight to keep their air and water clean
and their open spaces protected."
McKinney has consistently championed commonsense environmental measures that protect the health and quality of life of the people of Georgia throughout her nine years in Congress. She co-sponsored a bill to stop logging in National Forests and allow for increased recreational use. She led the fight to secure $37.3 billion for mass transit programs that lower auto emissions and air pollution. McKinney also played a key role in the passage of a resolution requiring the Army Corps of Engineers to assess the pollution of the watershed around Arabia Mountain in Dekalb County. In 2001 she earned a 93 percent on LCV's Scorecard.
