s6k.com is a network of original and shared journalism, media,
and research of culture, politics, arts, and human rights.

We are a completely independent new media network, discovering and documenting life without the constrictions and/or restrictions of the mainstream corporate media. We strongly encourage browsing around. There's plenty to discover and learn about. "Artivism" [arts and activism seamlessly combined], as a philosophy, enables us to create and utilize perfect fluidity between creative arts, various community betterment programs, activist strategies and information sharing/dispersal.

Darryl Hell, veteran mixed-media artist & s6k.com founder, has joined the team at Urban Assembly School of Music and Art, Brooklyn, to aid in the creation of web-based educational content. Initiated by teacher Shari Baerga, the first project is a Black History month lesson that will culminate into a mixed-media artwork created by each of the students. A number of Mrs. Baerga’s classes are currently working with this project. Twenty-five of the students will have their works selected to be displayed as part of a “Juneteenth” exhibition at the chashama Gallery, 112 W44th St, New York City. The exhibition will run June 19th to June 28th 2008.

The key goal of the project is to enable students to explore historical research, the creative process, and opportunities for real-world exhibition, as tools for education and enhancing study practices. We are also committed to assisting the students in innovative ways such as “cyber-tutoring,” which works to recontextualize and enhance how students work in their own environment while being tutored via phone and Internet.

s6k has launched a petition to preserve the legendary archive of Like It Is. This archive is a vital media treasure that should be shared as an educational historic reference source of the Black-American experience. click here and join the petition

We are happily celebrating our broadcast television premier with coverage of our s6k:Investigates "Drunk Cops" investigation. The CW 11 News, New York City, ran our investigation as their feature story, which ran in their 10pm news promotional spots all day long!
If you missed it, see it here now!

s6k:Investigates is hoping that the increased coverage results in a change in the civil laws of New Jersey, which would stop any incident like this from being kept "confidential" ever again.

s6k has developed a theatrical internship program, which would be implemented within the chashama Arts NYC theater program in collaboration with Urban Assembly School of Music and Art. This program would provide real-world training in sound, lighting, video, staging, event management and more. Students with a musical aptitude would be selected to expand their focus to develop a marketable skill, which is a perfect adjunct to anyone with musically based aspirations. Our objective for this program is to infuse the training with paid job opportunities, under supervised situations, which would help to strengthen / develop their work ethic, networking abilities and money management skills. The program will launch by May 2008.

"I have always thought what is needed is the development of people who are interested not in being leaders as much as in developing leadership in others. " Ella Baker

"The price of freedom is eternal publicity" Pete Seger

"You never change something by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete." Buckminster Fuller
